An embrace for parents with young children
Mausi and Little Bear Kindercafé was born out of my deep longing for a supportive community and my frustration of not finding family-oriented coffee shops, just like the ones I was familiar with.
As a native of Peru, I've relocated several times around the world, pursuing higher education and career opportunities. After getting married, my journey brought me from Los Angeles to Maryland. When my two beautiful children were born, I longed for the closeness of family and friends. It saddened me to think that my kids would grow up without both of their extended families—grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins—so different from the close-knit environment my husband and I experienced in our childhood.
Raising a child takes a village, and creating a family in isolation is extremely challenging.
As much as I was looking for surrogate grandparents for my kids, I was also seeking a supportive community of parents. During my early years of parenting, I discovered that many families were raising their children far from their extended relatives, and there was a strong need for a community where connections could deepen as we shared the challenges and joys of parenthood together.
As I built a beautiful community, I encountered a common frustration – the lack of family-oriented coffee shops. There’s the lack of charging stations, breastfeeding areas, family restrooms, or at least a kid’s corner. We often wished for a better environment where parents could gather, enjoy a drink or healthy snack, and have some nourishing "adult time" while our children played safely—just like in many other countries.
In 2021, Mausi and Little Bear Kindercafé was born out of a need and frustration!
As we create this unique space, imagine a vibrant Playhouse where you can gather with your friends, meet and connect with other parents, and build a community that becomes your support system that feels like a close-knit circle. Meanwhile, your children will play and learn in an environment that celebrates them, promotes independence, and encourages play-based learning.
